Just one month after the launch of its solar array installation on the roof of its Century City offices, Vodacom has been named as the winner in the category for African Solar Project of the Year by Africa Energy.
According to Africa Energy, the project is the largest solar array of panels on a single-roof building in Africa and Vodacom received the award for its investment in innovative and sustainable energy reduction solutions.
The sixth African Energy Awards are an extension of the largest power and energy exhibition in Africa, Power and Electricity World Africa. The show aims to bring together stakeholders of the African energy sector to help government and energy power producers to optimise their investment in the energy sector.
Vodacom’s chief officer: corporate affairs, Maya Makanjee, says: “We are proud of this award because it is testimony to our commitment to growing our business in a sustainable manner.
“This project is one example of our commitment to sustainability. The scale of human impact on the environment demands ambitious action and we are responding with a continued focus on innovative solutions in reducing the amount of energy the company consumes.”
The solar array project is expected to provide up to 75% of all electricity required for the daily operation of the building.
