Holton & Associates and BitDefender have parted ways in South Africa – after 10 years in which the local distributor built the security product from obscurity to being able to compete with the big brands in the South African market.
Holton & Associates became the exclusive distributors for BitDefender in 2003, and began the task of introducing a totally unknown antivirus product to South Africa.
Within four years of its launch, the product had become well regarded among South African resellers, and also a top seller in major retail stores.
The South African company introduced a full technical team to support BitDefender in local languages, which added to the product’s acceptance with local users and resellers.
However, in a bid to boost sales, the Romanian head office appointed a second distributor in December 2012.
With the increased business challenges this introduced, Holton & Associates has decided to relinquish the product.
“It is with regret that we announce the cession of supply and support of all BitDefender products by Holton & Associates,” writes MD Grayford Holton, in a statement sent to customers yesterday.
