Adobe is to move away from boxed products entirely, and will make its Creative Suite – to be known as Creative Cloud – available only on a subscription model.
The company has said it will not release new versions of the packaged suite, which includes InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat, and is widely used by designers.
Monthly subscriptions will start at $50.00 per person on a year’s contract.
Although other software vendors offer cloud-based versions of their products, Adobe will be the first to eliminate boxed products entirely.
The Creative Cloud service has been available as an option for about a year, and already has approximately 500 000 subscribers.
