Following the signing of the substantive agreement between Telkom and the Communication Workers Union last week, and the subsequent meeting with SACU on 31 July 2013, Telkom will implement the agreement in respect of all employees falling within the defined bargaining unit, including members of Solidarity.
SACU president Michael Hare indicated that “SACU will sign the agreement next week. Based on the outcome of SACU’s ballot process, 45% participated of which we did not get an outright majority not to accept the company’s offer as we traditionally work on mandates, we are obliged to conclude an agreement with Telkom.”
The company has initiated the implementation process which will entail a special payroll run and the payment of part of the back pay by Wednesday, 7 August 2013 with the rest being paid out on Friday 23 August 2013.
“I wish to express my gratitude to our trade unions for the manner in which they have engaged with us and it again indicates the quality and robust yet constructive nature of the relationship that we have managed to develop over the last few years. Going forward, the same spirit will be required to confront the many challenges facing our organisation.
“With a shared vision for this organization, no challenge will be insurmountable,” comments GCEO, Sipho Maseko.
