Telecommunications operators and cell phone suppliers have been voted among South Africa’s top brands.
The Sunday Times Top Brands Survey showed that MTN and Vodacom are both among the companies that consumers are most aware of, coming in second and third respectively.

Vodacom was also named as the third best brand in terms of uplifting the community, while Telkom is the third most desired company to work for. MTN’s chief marketing officer Serame Tukobong was named as the top brand marketing personality.

The most popular cell phone brands among consumers are Nokia, BlackBerry and Samsung, and the top telecommunications providers are Vodacom, MTN and Cell C, followed by Telkom and 8ta.

Business users favoured Apple, Samsung and Nokia cell phones, with telecommunications supplied by Vodacom, MTN and Telkom.

The most popular social media platforms were Facebook, Google + and Twitter.

Trevor Ormerod, GM of advertising and strategic sales at Times Media, says, “Being voted Top Brand in a category is a huge accolade for companies, because it indicates they’re hitting the ‘sweet-spot’ with the consumer.

“An award shows that a brand’s marketing activity is successful in gaining the traction required to foster brand loyalty and longevity, and positioning it on a good path for delivering results to company shareholders as well.”
