The Hitachi Information Forum has kicked off in Johannesburg, focusing on IT evolution.

Welcoming delegates to the conference, HDS’ Adrian Wood says Hitachi’s key focus is to look at society and the application of technology in changing it.

“Technology about technology is not what it’s about. It’s about ensuring that technology changes people’s lives.”

The world is seeing a lot of changes, he adds, along with an explosion of big data.

“Big data is a key feature, because social innovation relies heavily on big data,” he says. “If you can understand big data, you can understand how to change people’s lives.”

HDS is a large company that itself produces masses of big data. This allows the company to understand the value of using it, he says.

The HDS messaging centres around one platform, allowing users to get the best bang for their buck, Wood says.
