MTN’s 50% Mahala Airtime promotion may have come to an end on 31 August, but the company has reassured customers that free airtime received during the promotion will not expire.
On 2 June 2013, MTN launched 50% Mahala airtime promotion for PayAsYouGo and TopUp customers, where they get rewarded with 50% free airtime value everyday for recharging for R10 or more. The company at the time informed customers that the promotion will come to an end on 31 August 2013.

This promotion has helped customers to save on their airtime recharges during a time when most South African consumers were under a lot of pressure due to a higher cost of living.

The company stresses that free airtime received from the promotion will not expire despite the promotion ending.

“The response from the South African public has been extremely positive towards 50% Mahala Airtime promotion, with call traffic increasing in certain areas, which is indicative of MTN subscribers taking advantage of the opportunity to make more calls at no charge,” says Brian Gouldie, chief marketing officer at MTN SA. “However, all good things must come to an end.”

MTN customers who benefitted from the promotion in the past three months shouldn’t despair, he adds.

“With this in mind, MTN will focus on bringing new and exciting initiatives planned from September onwards which will be announced in the next few days,” says Gouldie.
