Although laptops sales have come under pressure, up to 70% of them are still going out with Windows 8 Professional.

Christopher Riley, CEO of The Notebook Company, says laptop sales could have been even more dented due to the weak rand, but they “seemed to hold their own” – even though costs jumped by more than 10%.

“Here at The Notebook Company we are expecting a 7% to 10% increase in sales for the first quarter. What we are now seeing is that there are fewer sales of laptops with Windows 7. The popularity of Windows 8 is definitely increasing, but part of this is because of the shortage of laptops with Windows 7.”

Riley adds that only 10% of Windows 8 sales at The Notebook Company are with touch screen laptops.
