Stratus Technology has announced the availability of everRun Enterprise, a next-generation software defined availability solution for downtime prevention. Designed to deliver mainframe-like reliability to virtualised workloads, everRun Enterprise keeps Windows and Linux applications up and running continuously without requiring changes to the applications.
Brendan Widlake, business development executive at Stratus Technologies says that unlike other availability solutions, everRun Enterprise proactively prevents downtime from occurring rather than merely recovering from it. It offers high availability and fault tolerant virtual machine options and is the only fault tolerant software solution that allows multiple CPU’s per virtual machines, making this the perfect solution for enterprise workloads that require availability.
“This is a difference that can have a significant impact on revenues, costs and customer satisfaction. Not only will everRun provide a comprehensive solution for always-on requirements, but it is also designed to offer really simple implementation, management and world-class support.
“Due to increasing customer demand in terms of replicating best levels of availability in remoter branches or offices, we anticipate a huge uptake of the new solution not only locally but across Africa. It will thus be a significant driver in growing the Stratus channel,” he comments.
everRun Enterprise is compatible with a wide range of platforms, is easy to implement and includes centralised management tools for an all-encompassing view of the entire stack – from bare metal to the applications. The software runs on industry-standard Intel-based x86 servers without the need for specialised IT skills.
In addition it unifies the ease of use, monitoring, management and service capabilities of the Stratus Avance high-availability software with the fault-tolerant engine of previous generations of everRun.
“The solution leverages the open source Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor providing a higher performance software platform that supports a wider range of operating system guest workloads,” add Widlake.
everRun Enterprise is a complete solution that includes the following features:
* Availability Engine – achieves always-on availability with applications mirrored in two virtual machines with no data loss or machine restarts;
* Split-site Cross Campus – provides application fault tolerance across geographically separated sites;
* Disaster Recovery – mitigates the impact disaster has on the bottom line by using a built-in asynchronous replication between sites over a wide area network connection;
* Stratus One View Console – enables users to build, designate, deploy, monitor and manage everRun instances and virtual machines from one centralised location;
* System Watchdog and Alerting Service – constantly monitors systems and automatically sends a system – level notification should a fault occur; and
* Application Monitoring – reduces downtime as well as simplifying, accelerating and optimising performance by providing visibility across IT environments and delivering automatic diagnosis.
