Research from CareerJunction has come up with some interesting statistics about women in the South African business market.
Comparing more than 2,4-million job seeker records on CareerJunction, the company came up with some good news and some bad news.
Among the good news:
* Four in 10 South African entrepreneurs are women;
* Women account for 68% of workers in the legal industry; and
* 57% of South African female job seekers have a diploma or higher education.
In terms of news that is not so good:
* Two out of three illiterate people in the world are women;
* Only 35% of executive positions are held by women; and
* South Africa is still experiencing a salary gap (28%) between men and women.
* Only 16 of the more than 380 JSE-listed companies are chaired by women.
* Men chairing boards earned 25% more than women doing the same work, chief financial officers 57,8% and CEOs 42,2%.
