Ukuvuma Solutions has successfully implemented the Cadac Organice Document Management and Control solution at the Koniambo Nickel SAS (KNS) in New Caledonia, located in the South Pacific, east of Australia.
KNS is operating a mine, a metallurgical nickel smelter, a power station and other supporting infrastructure on New Caledonia.
“Management at KNS needed a solution to manage its engineering documents, and after assessing project requirements, we decided that the Cadac Group would be the perfect solution because it enables KNS employees to share, manage and collaborate on engineering documentation,” says Jason Smit, director: Microsoft Technologies at Ukuvuma Solutions.
The company required an information management solution for the operational phase of the complex. The system needed to provide a secure and efficient process to submit documentation for review, comments, and approval. KNS needed an efficient and auditable method to transmit project documents to enable timely decisions and approvals in order to minimise potential for a project delay.
To manage the operational documents for the complex, KNS implemented Microsoft SharePoint. For managing and sharing the engineering documents, KNS needed an additional solution on top of SharePoint. The company decided to choose the Cadac Organice solution, developed by Cadac Group, because it fulfilled their requirements.
In co-operation with Ukuvuma Solutions, Cadac Group has implemented the Cadac Organice solution as the Engineering Document Management and Collaboration system. Cadac Group developed Cadac Organice to make Microsoft SharePoint capabilities accessible for engineering in the mining industry. Cadac Group recognized that a solution designed to support communication and collaboration should be intelligent and easy to use.
The Cadac Organice solution at KNS consists of different products. Cadac Organice Explorer is used to manage the electronic documentation in SharePoint required to support Operations, including engineering, quality, regulatory, specifications, vendor documents, procedures, policies and external communications.
In addition to that KNS uses Cadac Organice Transmit to distribute documents between the project members using transmittals and to keep track of what was sent to whom, when and why. Cadac Organice Workbox is used as workflow engine to support all reviewing and approval processes, implemented to meet the requirements of KNS.
Furthermore, KNS uses the Brava for SharePoint viewing technology to view, annotate and redact SharePoint documents in Cadac Organice and through the browser.
After successful initial deployment of the Cadac Organice solution by Ukuvuma Solutions and Cadac Group, Koniambo Nickel SAS decided to expand the number of licenses.
“Cadac Organice will help us to manage our engineering documents so we can operate a world-class industrial plant,” says Jenifer Souter, manager: Documentation at KNS.
