Mining company, Gold Fields has commissioned local technology company, IsoMetrix, to implement an encompassing health, safety and environment solution at its South Deep Mine near Westonaria.
Up to now, South Deep’s HSE management has been addressed with various disparate systems and manual processes which provide little visibility or integration in real-time. The IsoMetrix HSE management solution delivers full visibility through its dashboards, powered by QlikView, which are embedded in the software through an OEM agreement.
As South Deep mine operates at levels of more than 3000m underground, it is essential that their health and safety measures are controlled as stringently as possible. Previous systems did not provide the level of visibility and control the mine needs.
“Unplanned events that occur that could have resulted in death, injury, damage to property, environmental impact and occupational diseases can now be tracked in the IsoMetrix Incidents module whilst the Risk Assessment module allows for a systematic identification of undesired events and their causes,” says Paul Marketos, sales director at IsoMetrix.
IsoMetrix was recommended by Bonny Sebola, the senior manager of Sustainable Development at South Deep Mine, based on his previous experience with the company and its flexible solutions while working at Anglo American. He requested that IsoMetrix supply him with the same environmental management functionality.
The rest of the solution will be generated from the IsoMetrix Standard Template HSE solution. Gold Fields South Africa has selected the professional version of IsoMetrix which has up to 75 named users and can be upgraded to higher levels of users as and when required. The Web-based system will be hosted at Gold Fields and will be expandable to additional modules including Quality and Occupational Health should the need arise.
