Huawei has been named the European Consumer Smartphone 2014 – 2015 by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) for its latest flagship smartphone, Huawei Ascend P7.
This is the second consecutive year that Huawei has been recognised by EISA after receiving the award for European Consumer Smartphone 2013 – 2014 for the ultra slim 6.18mm Ascend P6 launched in June 2013.
The new LTE-enabled Ascend P7 redefines smartphone excellence and builds on the success of Huawei Ascend P6. EISA commended Huawei Ascend P7 for its “beautiful glass finish…available in black or white and at an attractive price” and highlighted that its “two camera modules allowing high resolution selfies and groufies (group selfies) to be shot with its 8MP front-facing camera, while the rear device features a 13-million-pixel sensor with flash and supporting apps”.
“This award proves that Huawei is in fact redefining technology and pushing boundaries when it comes to smartphone design. We have successfully managed to evolve, enhance and transform the camera experience and connectivity,” explains Larking Huang, GM of Huawei Device South Africa.
Less than two months after its launch more than two million units have been sold in over 70 countries. The Ascend P7 is available through Vodacom and Cell C with Telkom due to launch on 21 August.
In September 2013, Huawei Ascend P6 was named ‘European Consumer Smartphone 2013 – 2014’ and described as a “surprisingly well-equipped smartphone at a very attractive price”.
Ascend P6 is now on sale in over 100 countries and has shipped more than 4-million units since it was launched. Huawei is ranked number three in global smartphone shipments for Q1 2014 and 2013 by Canalys, IDC and Strategy Analytics, with the highest year-on-year increase among the leading vendors.
