Industry, government and industrial labour need to develop a shared purpose to drive the manufacturing industry in South Africa.
Raymond Padayachee, vice-president: process industries and drives at Siemens Southern and Eastern Africa, says Siemens is prepared to take a leadership role in this journey.
Speaking at the Siemens Future of Manufacturing in South Africa today, Padayachee says Siemens has restructured, and will now service industrial customers through two divisions: Digital Factory and Process Industry and Drives.
The digital factory division aims to reshape manufacturing in the areas of engineering, productivity and services by boosting productivity to letting customers get products to market faster,
The process division lets them get parts from a single source, while improving productivity and plant safety. The company is bringing together hardware and software, merging the physical and virtual worlds.
“Siemens is involved though its skills development and training programmes, and deeply involved in the South African industry. We are in the DNA of some of Africa’s top manufacturers,” Padayachee says.
“We see a bright future of manufacturing in Africa.”
