Airports Company South Africa has appointed Sello Mmakau as its new CIO. The CIO position is a newly created role for Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) following the company’s leadership realignment earlier this year.
ACSA’s CEO Bongani Maseko says: “Mmakau’s new role is an important one, which will ensure that the information technology strategy is ideally aligned to sustainably support the growing organisation. His position plugs into Airports Company South Africa’s plans to conclude the filling of positions at executive level during the current financial year.”
Previously CIO at the Department of Home Affairs, Mmakau was instrumental in improving the department’s back-end systems performance, enabling it to better deliver on its mandate to the public and enhance its reputation.
During his almost six years at Home Affairs, he was also involved in collaborating with the banking industry to develop automated online fingerprint verification and implemented the new South African Smart ID card. The SA smart ID card won Regional ID Document of the Year Award 2013 in an annual High Security Printing conference held in Asia.
Mmakau has a BA degree, a Master of Business Leadership degree and several IT-related qualifications. Prior to his position at Home Affairs, he worked at the Department of Health, the State Information Technology Agency and at Sasol.
