Craig Venter, group executive of Altron and CEO of Altech, has been announced as the Continental Winner for the ICT Sector (Africa) in the CEO Communications’ Titans – Building Nations Award for 2014.

Venter was recognised for his influence in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector and for using ICT as the principle driver of economic development through innovation and solutions offered by Altron TMT.

Venter received the prestigious award at a gala reception held in Johannesburg.

Commenting on the award, Venter had the following to say: “The Titans – Building Nations Award is a recognition platform that celebrates leaders who play a major role in the development and growth of their country and I am extremely proud and honoured to have received this award.

“ICT is the catalyst that enables countries to transform their economies and drive socio-economic progress. The involvement of Altron TMT in a number of significant ICT initiatives and projects, both privately and in partnership with government, such as the Gauteng Broadband Network, are creating an environment that nurtures technological and service innovation, and triggers positive change in business processes and society as a whole.”

Earlier this year, Venter was announced as the CEO Communications country winner in the ICT Sector in South Africa. He then went through to the next stage of judging and in August was announced as the regional winner in the ICT Sector for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Region. As a regional winner, Craig was then nominated as a finalist for the Continental Award (Africa) in the ICT Sector.
