This year will see a further increase in the adoption of the bring your own device (BYOD) trend as employees want to use their own smartphones and tablets at work because they feel more comfortable using them – and believe they can complete tasks more efficiently if they use them.
This is according to Derick Roberts, CEO of wireless specialist, TruTeq Devices. “Besides wanting to use their own devices, employees also find it bothersome to lug around two devices – one for work and one for personal use.”
The BYOD trend – while complicated to implement- has brought with it a number of benefits.
One of these benefits is a very likely increase in productivity. This is likely to occur as employees are familiar with their own devices and they are also more inclined to work offsite when they do not need to switch devices to do so.
Another advantage of implementing BYOD is the reduced company device cost. Once a company allows for BYOD – and actually encourages employees to use their own devices – you reduce the cost, maintenance and management of company assets.
Additionally, many professionals consider BYOD to be a perk. Accepting and implementing BYOD shows that the business is progressive and technically progressive. This could assist in keeping staff loyal – and perhaps luring a high calibre of employees.
Roberts said employees are generally reimbursed for using their own device. Many SMBs save by reimbursing employees based on the cost savings from not owning mobile devices for employee use, which leads to lower company costs. At the end of the day the company can actually score financially.
