Reports have surfaced today that Nokia might be in talks to acquire the wireless infrastructure business of Alcatel-Lucent.

Various sources have said the talks are in an advanced stage, and that a decision could be announced quite quickly.

The rumours have been around since last December, and now it appears that the talks could have been ongoing since January this year.

The wireless infrastructure business of Alcatel-Lucent is significant, accounting for about 36% of the French company’s revenues and generating about €47-billion per year.

No confirmation from either Nokia or Alcatel-Lucent was forthcoming.
