Microsoft has launched its affordable new Lumia smartphones in South Africa, with prices from as low as R999.00. The Lumia 430 is Microsoft’s first sub-R1 000.00 smartphone, and is available now for just R999.00.

This device includes the latest Windows with free preloaded services as well as a dual SIM processor and 1Gb of RAM.

The new Lumia 640 smartphones start at R2 699.00, or R199.00 per month.

The dual-SIM version will retail at R2 799.00 or R219.00 per month.

With a five-inch screen and long battery life, the Lumia 640 includes SnapDragon processor and high-resolution cameras.

The Lumia 640 XL, also launched today, targets the “prosumer”, whose usage is more for work purposes.

With a 5,7-inch screen, the XL comes with Office and Outlook built in, with a OneDrive connection.

The dual-SIM version of the 640 XL will be available for R269.00 per month. At launch, it will be available only on contract and not through general retail.

Adding value to both the Lumia 640 and 640 XL, users will receive a 12-month free subscription to Office 365 – which can be activated on the user’s phone and personal computer.

This offer needs to be activated before the end of July 2015.
