Pan-African terrestrial Network Service Provider, Workonline Communications, is now offering partial transit and remote peering services to the London Internet Exchange (LINX), further advancing the company’s development in sub-Saharan Africa.
With more than 650 members connecting from over 65 different countries worldwide, LINX members have access to direct routes from a large number of diverse international peering partners, which Workonline Communications is now making available in sub-Saharan Africa to their clients.
Edward Lawrence, director: business development at Workonline Communications, explains: “Workonline’s portfolio of carrier focused services enables our clients to extend their reach to new markets and enhance their existing services.”
In terms of the benefits of the relationship, Lawrence explains that the Workonline service provides a lower commercial entry point for networks to reach LINX from Africa and that Workonline’s extremely resilient carrier grade core network ensures the reliability of the connection to LINX’s peering fabric.
“Reaching the LINX peers over the Workonline network (either using a partial transit or a remote peering service) helps Internet Service Providers in sub-Saharan Africa to make the most of the benefits of peering at LINX (such as reducing their IP transit costs) without having to build and manage their own infrastructure in Europe,” he explains.
He also notes that the partnership is helping African networks develop their global footprint further. “Workonline is focused on assisting in the development of the African network community in as many ways as we can. We feel that the relationship with LINX furthers the previous efforts we have carried out, such as offering free IPv6 transit to AfriNIC LIR members.”
John Souter, CEO of LINX, says: “With more network operators trying to interconnect with each other in London than ever before, our ConneXions partners provide an important service for networks wishing to participate remotely. Africa is a rapidly developing new market and we’re delighted to welcome Workonline as a reseller in this region.”
