A 29-year-old woman has been arrested by the Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) KwaZulu-Natal for allegedly selling South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards which are not valid.

The arrest follows information which was brought forward by a woman who learned about the scam and then pretended to be a customer.

She made an appointment to meet with an alleged suspect at Umgeni Road and then called the police who took the suspect for questioning.

The suspect gave information to the police that she got the cards from a woman at Empangeni who has got boxes full of these Sassa cards, with each card costing R1 000.00.

Upon searching her belongings, two Sassa cards were found in her possession.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Central Magistrate’s Court on Monday for Fraud charges. The matter is still under investigation.
