Pan-African telecoms operator Paratus Telecom has started rolling out its Paratus Communication Service throughout South Africa. It now offers connectivity that provides the same performance and reliability to that of fibre and is now available in under-serviced fibre areas.
This service is built on the Comsol Fibre Connect (CFX) national network that is being rolled out countrywide. Comsol Fibre Connect (CFX) is South Africa’s first and only nationwide open-access high-speed carrier-grade data network that will connect businesses in both major metros and small towns.
Paratus Communication Service is a dedicated high capacity wireless solution that delivers uncontended direct access to services such as Internet, VoIP, Video and Cloud. It utilises a combination of the fibre optic infrastructure in conjunction with a robust 28Ghz licensed wireless solution for last mile access.
Kallie Carlsen, Paratus Telecom SA MD, says this service is connected to the Paratus global network at Teraco for the provision of Internet access. “Paratus Communication Service is the ideal solution for your primary, load balancing or redundant connectivity requirements, the solution for the business that requires fibre-like connectivity and throughput, but is situated in an under-serviced fibre area.”
“Paratus Communication Service offers dedicated, uncontended connectivity with various speed profiles. Paratus Communication Service is supported by the highest standard technology network, subject to coverage and Line of Sight. Deployment is done within 7 working days from order and confirmation of Line of Sight,” he explains.
Comsol CIO Marius Swart says Comsol Fibre Connect offers the best of the fibre and wireless worlds, allowing carriers and service providers like Paratus Telecom to connect their customers with speeds from 2Mbps to 1Gbps.
“The combination of a fibre optic backbone with high-speed wireless access infrastructure provides near blanket coverage of metros, cities and district councils,” he explains.
The service is currently live in places like Empangeni, Port Shepstone, Newcastle, Upington, Nelspruit and Bloemfontein and is expanding rapidly to other under-serviced fibre areas, but also covers all major centres in Gauteng.
“Existing fibre networks in the country are not far-reaching enough and take too long to deploy. Comsol’s reach spans to over 200 metropolitan areas and towns across the country via Comsol’s Fibre Connect network,” concludes Swart.
