FibreCo has opened a new hosting facility in Yzerfontein.

“Located directly opposite the WACS landing station, FibreCo has overcome current Cable Landing Station (CLS) hosting challenges and provides clients with open access hosting and co-location facilities, connecting directly into the undersea cable landing station”, says Marius Mostert, FibreCo’s chief technical officer.

“Clients now have the flexibility to manage their own routing protection and enable end customer network interfaces directly from the CLS. In addition, the hosting facility is an aggregation point for the developing surrounding areas of Yzerfontein.”

As FibreCo continues to expand its facility footprint, there is an associated focus on sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives to reduce energy consumption by incorporating the latest efficient technologies and practices in data centre management to minimise environmental impact.  Energy efficient enhancements are being introduced at FibreCo’s hosting facility in Yzerfontein to support the requirements of this environmentally sensitive area.

Spanning over 4 000 km, FibreCo’s network consists of underground fibre routes, high speed optical equipment and carrier-grade equipment hosting facilities interconnecting over 52 points of presence country-wide including major data centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth and East London.

FibreCo provides optimal network operations and maintenance functionality underpinned by a carrier grade network infrastructure and service assurance framework. Proactive surveillance of optical fibre, hosting facilities and transmission equipment ensures effective management of preventative maintenance and corrective fault management.
