Gareth Tindall has been appointed as chief operating officer of newly-launched Rain, effective 1 June 2017.
“Rain is a collaboration of the smartest minds who have been working tirelessly over the past few years to make an LTE-A network a reality, and I look forward to contributing to the growth of the business,” says Tindall. “Rain is the future of fixed and mobile connectivity and I am delighted to be a part of this exciting venture. There is a huge demand in South Africa for fast, reliable and affordable network coverage, and Rain promises to deliver just that.”
“I’m pleased to welcome Gareth on board at this crucial time for the business,” says Rain CEO Duncan Simpson-Craib. “Gareth will be responsible for all operating divisions across the business, and his vast experience and far reaching network will be invaluable. He is extremely passionate about business culture and customers, and his wealth of experience across a variety of industries will stand him in good stead as the glue that brings all the parts of our business together.”
Tindall’s experience includes sales and marketing director at Dimension Data for 15 years, CEO of Hertz Car Rental, commissioner for the SA PGA Sunshine Tour, CEO of Kelly Group, and business consultant at Investec.
Rain has to date rolled out over 750 Sites and is on track to meet a target of 2 000 by the end of the year, 5 000 by the end of 2018 and ultimately 10 000 in the coming years.
Rain has recently partnered with Internet Solutions to deliver its fixed wireless broadband service, ‘Rain to the Home’ (RttH) as a Fibre or DSL alternative, coined ‘fibre in the sky’. Internet Solutions will now be offering service providers access to Rain’s LTE-A network.
In future Rain plans to launch a full mobile data service.
