Shortly after announcing its acquisition of the Turkish firm IKON Interactive’s content management solution (CMS) and source code, Discover Digital has announced enhanced functionality and features for the platform.
Discover Digital’s streaming platform is now Chromecast enabled for Android devices, with Apple AirPlay functionality to follow shortly.
Discover Digital MD, Stephen Watson, says the enhancements are in line with Discover Digital’s efforts to develop the ultimate media streaming platform for broadcasters, telecommunications operators and sports rights holders looking at OTT Streaming and VOD technologies.
“Discover Digital is primarily a technology company, continually working to add value to the media streaming solutions now coming to market. Through our IKON acquisition and ongoing in-house software development and enhancements, we are building out a future-proof media streaming platform that makes next-generation entertainment a reality,” he says.
“Casting capability for large screen viewing has been a top request from our subscribers so we have now enabled streaming to Google Chromecast devices. We have been in long term talks with Google, and this move takes us a step closer to future collaborations across Africa.”
Other developments on the CMS include the first phase launch of Social Sharing to make viewing more social and interactive on common Social Media Platforms. Viewers can now instantly share, tag friends and comment on any movie or series they are watching, to their Facebook and Twitter profiles without leaving the platform or content page.
All developments listed will be deployed to Discover Digital’s OTT Internet TV and VOD Service, DEOD, launched in May this year with Sun International and independently offered to other DD technology customers.
