NU establishes ESM business unit

Networks Unlimited has established a new Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) business unit to meet the technology demands of its customers across the continent. Hannes Rheeder will head up the new unit.
Anton Jacobsz, MD of Networks Unlimited, says: “The establishment of the ESM unit comes as the changing face of technology today, including globalisation and the rise of the internet, creates an increasing reliance on technology to remain competitive. We are standing at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in which the boundaries between the real world and the technological world become increasingly blurred, and so with this comes a steadily increasing number of connected devices pouring more and more information into technological systems.
“In fact, in February this year, Gartner predicted that 8.4 billion connected things would be in use worldwide in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016, and that this number would reach 20.4 billion by 2020,” he continues. “This growth is compelling us to think differently about how to manage this enormous volume of information, as well as how to measure the impact of all these devices on your environment.
“As it is humanly impossible to analyse all these bits and pieces of data, this has brought about the urgent need to automate a lot of these functions to facilitate operational support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS) in managing real-time analytics.”
With the tools it is able to supply through its ESM unit, Networks Unlimited can assist businesses to use real time data in order to make intelligent decisions ‘on the fly’. This in turn will completely change network operations.
Jacobsz explains that the new business unit will initially manage and focus on three brands distributed by Networks Unlimited, offering best-of-breed solutions to infrastructure management initiatives, application service management and remote management technologies.
“Through these three partners, the ESM unit will operate in two distinct areas, namely monitoring and management of the infrastructure. Through the monitoring side, our solutions will send alerts regarding serious problems. The management side of the business will include some Artificial Intelligence (AI) elements built into the system, which will first deal with issues and then update users accordingly. The monitoring and management sections of the ESM unit work together and are complementary to each other, and the combination of these technologies increases productivity, minimises mean time to repair (MTTR), and reduces cost. These benefits are achieved efficiently through event correlation, system automation and predictive analysis.
“Historically, enterprise systems management has not been part of the Networks Unlimited solution focus — but the requirement from customers has necessitated this addition,” he adds. “The ESM solutions do not compete with our current offering but fill an important void across the continent and we look forward to providing a greater end user reach in the region.”
