Rustenburg gets MTN LTE coverage

MTN has expanded the rollout of LTE coverage to Rustenburg, by refarming of existing spectrum.
The LTE activation followed significant new site densification in Rustenburg in 2017 as well as deployment of UMTS900 to improve indoor 3G coverage. The UMTS900 band would supplement the new sites and assist in offering better indoor penetration characteristics.
The overall programme in Rustenburg is a continuation of MTN’s network strategy that is underpinned by faster speeds, quality voice and expansive coverage.
“A Bozza network translates to faster download and upload speeds, clearer voice quality and ubiquitous coverage for our customers. At the heart of our network rollout strategy is a commitment to provide high performing networks that cater to the digital boom and voice demands of our customers. I am thrilled at the rate at which we have expanded our LTE coverage and remain confident that our customers will reap the benefits of a seamless and world class network,” says Giovanni Chiarelli, chief information and technology officer at MTN South Africa.
With all the recent investment in Rustenburg, customers can look forward to significantly better indoor data coverage, faster downloads, seamless web browsing and better YouTube video streaming with minimal buffering.
“The results we are getting from our network gives credence to our ongoing quest to provide a Bozza network that gives our customers a brighter experience. We are emboldened by the progress we have made in Rustenburg, and hope that we will continue to replicate this remarkable feat across our network footprint,” says Chiarelli.
He says this multi-pronged network optimisation programme also encompasses a site by site analysis and improved network capacity and skills.
“These plans are aimed at ensuring that we attain our strategic objective of transforming customer experience in all facets of our operation: from improving our IT processes in the back end and to capacitating our network to ensure that it caters for increasing traffic and the digital requirements of today’s lifestyle,” concludes Chiarelli.
