FIBRE PLANNER

Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position. This person will report to the National Fibre Coordinator.

Extensive travelling will be required for people in this role.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: To take responsibility for the fibre network planning process

Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting Site Surveys for:
  • Underground Optical Fibre Routes
  • Aerial Optical Fibre Routes
  • Developing Basic designs for:
  • Underground Optical Fibre Routes
  • Aerial Optical Fibre Routes
  • Deriving a Bill of Material from the Design
  • Development of preliminary Site Survey Reports, drawings and layouts using Google Earth, GIS and CADD Programs for use in the development of a Business Case for project approvals
  • Submission of:
  • Wayleaves Applications (longitudinal and transversal)
  • Registration of servitudes, rezoning applications and departures from restrictions
  • And Infrastructure and Site sharing applications, to local authorities and 3rd parties
  • Engagements with stakeholders and follow up meetings with local authorities
  • Detailed designs on CADD, GIS, OSP Insight or other related programs for:
  • Underground Duct Reticulation, allocation of manholes, joints, splitters, and determination of fibre cable sizes
  • Overhead Plant and Reticulation, allocation of poles, joints, splitters, and determination of fibre cable sizes
  • Facilitation of Project Kick off Meetings and regular project progress meetings
  • Tracking of project progress by means of Project Management

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills: –

  • 3 to 4 years’ experience with fibre optic planning
  • Minimum of 2 year’s Project Management experience
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport
  • Professional knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, schemes, policies and guidelines
  • Excellent research skills
  • Excellent organisation skills i.e. able to plan, prioritise, coordinate and
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work quickly and under pressure
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Time management skills
  • Team player
  • Communication skills (written and verbal)

Qualifications

  • An Urban/Town and Regional Planning degree or relevant 3-year qualification or
  • Relevant previous experience in Fibre optic planning and team management
