A well-established company specializing within food processing requires the above to provide hands on agronomic services to fruit producers based on sound economic principles and covering all aspects of production.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Min 3-year tertiary agricultural qualification.
- Field and advisory experience in the agricultural industry preferably as an Agronomist for a large agricultural production group.
- Applicants need to be AVCASA accredited.
- Computer literacy with good skills in MS office.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Successful applicants will be required to develop a professional working relationship with their clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- The main purpose of the position is to provide hands on agronomic services to the company’s producers based on sound economic principles and covering all aspects of fruit production.
- Pest and disease management (integrated pest management based).
- Fertilization and soil health improvement.
- Irrigation scheduling.
- Pruning and crop manipulation.
- Cultivar/variety spread and rootstock choice.
- Picking practices.
- Production economics.
- Sustainability practices.
- Provide junior members within the department with guidance and training.
