A Medical Officer (Doctor) (Mycology) – 8 Months Fixed Term Contract vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Cape Town (Western Cape) or Johannesburg (Gauteng).
Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC”) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
Main purpose of the job
- To abstract data from an already-imaged hospital and clinic charts of patients who meet the case definition for the CAST-NET project, as well as oversight of nurse abstractors on the same project. Assist with set up for and implementation of cluster-randomized trial nested within CAST-NET
Location
- Cape Town or Johannesburg
Key performance areas
- To abstract, analyze and interpret surveillance data for feedback to the Department of Health, laboratories, universities and international stakeholders
- Assist with scientific writing in NICD communications and peer-reviewed publications
- Conduct or assist with site visits for surveillance and study purposes
- Teach and train surveillance staff at all levels
- Assist and advise on updating ethics clearance (for all universities) and permissions for all sites
Required minimum education and training
- MBChB or equivalent degree AND registered as an independent medical practitioner by the HPCSA
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
- HIV medicine, internal medicine and clinical/ epidemiology research experience
- Teaching, supervisory and staff management experience will be advantageous
- Above average computer skills, particularly in MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS Word
- Organized, and accurate approach to work
- Prior research experience desirable

- 3 years of work experience post-registration
