Experience and Qualification:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • B Com degree or equivalent essential
  • Has at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in financial management and/or an accountant role
  • Sound computer literacy knowledge (MS excel and word) is essential
  • Knowledge of ACCPAC and Oracle would be advantageous
  • Experience in the medical scheme industry would be advantageous

Responsibilities and work output:

  • Accurately generating, sorting and analyzing of financial reports in order to prepare the monthly management accounts.
  • Ensuring the monthly management accounts are completed timeously and submitted to the Financial Manager for review. Monthly reporting to the Scheme office is done by the 14th of each month.
  • Monthly management accounts are prepared at an individual policy level and combined together to reflect the Scheme’s overall performance. Therefore, being able to accurately roll up multiple financial statements into a combined financial statement will be a requirement.
  • Analyzing and reviewing the financial information/trial balance prepared by the Assistant Management Accountant and ensuring this is accurately reflected in the management accounts.
  • Accurate preparation, capturing of quarterly and annual regulatory reporting submissions for the Council for Medical Schemes.
  • Ensuring monthly reporting to the Council for Medical Schemes is done in compliance with the submission deadlines.
  • Liaison with the Scheme’s assets managers to obtain quarterly reports in preparation for the quarterly submissions to the Council.
  • Obtaining reports from the Scheme’s third-party suppliers, analyzing and posting necessary journal entries.
  • Review of monthly general ledger account reconciliations with formal feedback to the Financial Manager.
  • Liaison with the actuaries to obtain annual budget figures, monthly claims provision, monthly demographics and posting the necessary adjustment entries.
  • Calculating and processing additional monthly reporting journal entries.
  • Ensuring all necessary Schemes’ meeting fees are paid timeously and maintaining an updated schedule.
  • Timeously handling and resolving ad hoc requests from the Financial Manager.
  • Updating and maintaining Scheme’s reporting schedules on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with the monitoring of the Scheme’s daily operational cash management.
  • Accurately prepare and provide information for the external and internal audit and provide assistance during the audit period.
  • Attend to daily adhoc requests.
  • Proactively following up on outstanding reporting information and providing feedback to the Financial Manager.
  • Provide support to the Scheme’s Assistant Accountant.
  • Ensuring all Scheme’s agreements and documents are filed timeously.
  • Proactively follow up on queries raised by the Financial Manager and timeously provide feedback.
