Purpose:
The Legal Advisor: Governance and Corporate Legal will be responsible for providing an effective and efficient Legal Advisory service to the company with a primary focus on drafting and reviewing business and commercial agreements in line with policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Qualification & Experience Required:
Legal Degree or equivalent qualification i.e. LLB or B Proc
Admission as an attorney or advocate
4 years working experience in a financial sector legal environment (post admission)
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, review and vet business contracts
Maintain and update contracts register for accuracy
Facilitate contractual disputes
Effectively manage records and documents
Prepare documents for Executive and Board Committee submission when requested by Manager
Draft and review of policies and procedures
Manage and oversee the resolution of commercial legal disputes
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
Provide all business units with commercial legal support
Assist with Compliance and Risk Management actions for the Company Secretariat office
Assist with ad hoc requirements including filing and submission of regulatory returns and applications within the Company Secretariat officeÂ
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Required:
Knowledge and experience in drafting, reviewing and vetting commercial and other contracts
Knowledge of business policies, processes and procedures, legal compliance
Practical knowledge of applicable insurance, FAIS and related legislation
Practical knowledge of the Companies Act Â
