A Research Assistant (6 Months Fixed Term Contract) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Cape Town – Western Cape.

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC”) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof

Main purpose of the job

  • To recruit participants and collect data from each vaginal delivery folder as per case report form (CRF) for the E-Motive programme

Key performance areas

  • Recruit participants according to study inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Address relevant concerns and misconceptions about the study with participants
  • Receive queries from participants and address or refer the queries accordingly
  • Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with participants, patients, and all facility staff
  • Follow up with all women who had a PPH and check for events when requested
  • Assist participants with the use of blood collection drapes. Wash up and discard used drapes
  • Use blood collection drapes as per main trial protocol, weigh blood collection drapes using study-specific scales, record weight on study stickers provided and case report forms (CRF)
  • Check the accuracy of the digital weighing scales provided on a monthly basis using the calibration weights provided and record this on the case report form (CRF)
  • File all participant/patient forms according to the study requirements and ensure all forms are submitted to the relevant data capturers
  • Record individual patient data on the Redcap study database directly or immediately after the paper case report form completion
  • Respond to data queries within the Redcap study database promptly
  • Complete relevant logs on a daily basis as per the main trial protocol
  • Prepare decoded files as and when required and ensure the Investigator Site File (ISF) is maintained and stored securely
  • Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional
  • Assist research nurse with weekly and monthly reports
  • Perform all duties as per delegation log and as assigned by supervisors from time to time

Required minimum education and training

  • Grade 12

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Confidentiality, tact, and discretion must be maintained at all times
  • Ability to manage self and prioritize own workload
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Required minimum work experience

  • At least one-year experience in data capturing
