MAIN PURPOSE

  • Operation of hoisting machinery for external load lifting during helicopter operations in the port system in accordance with the organisation standard operating procedures. Transfer of marine pilots to vessels. Application of the civil Aviation regulations as well as Nation Ports Act No. 12 of 2005. Ensure Port Efficiency with regard to operation of the company helicopter service

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 / Minimum of 5 years hoist/winch-man specialist experience and/or hold a Hoist Operator on helicopter
  • English language proficiency
  • Operational knowledge of the functions of the company marine pilot service

POSITION OUTPUTS

  • Hoist machinery checks and safety briefings
  • Transfer of marine pilots safety to vessels
  • Compliance with Civil Aviation Regulations
  • Compliance with SAMSA and the National Ports Act No. 12 of 2005
  • Evacuation of accident victims and persons in distress
  • Conduct port related flights in accordance with the organisation requirements
  • Accurate recording of hoist lifts and cycles
  • Liaison with flight crew external load operations
  • Customer service
  • Prepare and ensure cabin safety during all flights
  • Carry out helicopter and bowser fuel samples on a daily basis in accordance with the organisation safety manual
  • Render cabin first aid if required
  • Ensure any cargo , seat belts, and tie downs must not obstruct normal or emergency exits
  • Ensure that no unauthorised personal are carried on board the helicopter
  • Carry out safety briefings
  • To assist at other bases as per daily schedule
  • To assist with daily refueling of aircraft
  • To assist the Emergency department as required

POSITION CHALLENGE

  • Ensure safe hoisting of external loads during flight and incident-free transfer of marine pilots to moving vessels in adverse weather conditions
  • Ensure on-time helicopter flights

  • Collaboration and maintaining constant communication with the helicopter pilot in command. Good judgement quick decision making in an emergency. Contribution to continuous improvement of processes and task execution
