KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Initiate projects according to the Project Management Methodology
- Compile a project charter and obtain sign off from the project sponsor and Head PMO
- Compile the project register form and obtain sign off from the project sponsor and Head PMO
- Populate the document repository on SharePoint with all project and product related documents
- Determine and verify that project resources are loaded on the timesheet system
- Schedule and chair the project kick off meeting as soon as the project has been registered
Plan projects according to the Project Management Methodology
- Schedule and chair the project planning workshop as and when they occur
- Conduct the planning in terms of preparing the scope, time and costing for the project
- Identify all stakeholders and their possible influence on the project. A stakeholder matrix is to be compiled displaying the various stakeholders and their influence noted
- Integrate all the different areas that are delivering on the project in the plan. Dependencies and the logical relationship between them must be noted and managed
- Consult with Change Management throughout the project lifecycle in order to plan the deliverables and to include the Change Management deliverables into the project schedule
- Draw up the communication matrix, whereby agreements are made on the frequency and the method of the project team communication
- Refer to the procurement strategy, contracting strategy to determine the procurement of long lead items and includeprocurement deliverables into the project schedule. This includes, RFI, RFP and delivery times
- Determine, draw up and document a resource plan that must be on and off boarded from the project. Address roles and responsibilities on the project as well as general management of the resources
- Conduct product planning, so as guide the project managers through the SDLC to address what is required from a governance point of view. Document what is required to obtain approval from the necessary approval gates such asthe Architecture Board
Monitor and control projects according to the SBV Project Management Methodology
- Conduct project progress meetings as and when required as per the principles stipulated by the project needs
- Conduct project change control by determining that the project scope, time, cost and quality are set and all measurements are to be done against the approved baseline. Any change that will influence scope, cost, time and quality is to follow the approved project change control process. No change will be accepted unless it is signed off by the relevant project sponsor
- Conduct steering committee meetings (steerco) and provide any escalations on a monthly basis
- Provide Project status reports on a monthly basis
- Control budget costs in accordance with the approved budget
- Identify potential risks to the project and conduct risk mitigation
- Identify any issues and coordinate the resolution thereof
- Record all decisions in the decisions register for the project sponsor to sign off
Close projects according to the Project Management Methodology
- Obtain signoff for deliverables from the project stakeholders as they are complete
- Ascertain that all vendors have been paid and that the budget has reached depletion
- Compile an As Build Schedule for record keeping and reflection of future projects
- Conduct a project close out meeting and provide the project close out report that is to be presented to the Project Portfolio Board
- Present the project close out report to the Project Portfolio Board
Evaluate performance.
- A senior PM has the skills to know what is expected of a PM and should be able to help evaluate that persons performanceespecially since management often seeks their skills, opinions and recommendations.
Identify PM-related training needs.
- They should be able to evaluate the readiness of a project team or organization and then recommend the related training required to ensure the effective application of project management and leadership principles.
Conduct training.
- Must be able to teach many of the skillsboth hard and softthat are required for the successful planning, execution, delivery and support of projects and their products or services. They must also qualify project management training vendors and monitor their delivery and effectiveness.
Perform project reviews.
- The ability to either individually assess the health of a project or lead a small team in doing so. It is important for the senior PM to be able to net the review findings so that the most important problem areas
Turn troubled projects around.
- Be able to turn around small and some medium-sized troubled projects. But a senior PM should be able to turn around any-size troubled project in his or her industry.
REQUIREMENTS
- 7 years managing medium to large scale projects
- Experience working in the Banking sector
- MS Office Suite at an Intermediate Level
- MS Projects experience at an Advanced level
- Relevant 3 year degree would be advantageous
- Knowledge of financial principles and how to apply them.
- Relevant Project management Certification
- At least PMP or equivalent Prince 2 certification would be advantageous
- MS Visio experience would be advantageous
