As an Senior IT Systems Administrator. you will be responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. This role ensures the smooth operation and security of the company’s IT infrastructure, including network, server and security systems and provides advanced technical support. The Senior IT Systems Administrator will collaborate closely with the IT Manager to ensure IT strategies are executed efficiently and aligned with business needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
IT Infrastructure and systems management:
- Manage and maintain all IT systems, including servers, networks (LAN/WAN), storage, and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Ensure optimal performance and security of IT infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, routers, and switches.
- Oversee the administration of Active Directory, user accounts, and permissions.
Technical support and troubleshooting:
- Provide high-level technical support for IT-related issues, ensuring quick resolution of hardware, software, and network problems.
- Handle complex system and network issues that require advanced troubleshooting skills.
Network security and compliance: - Implement and monitor network security measures, including firewalls (Sophos), intrusion detection/prevention systems, and endpoint security.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR) and manage backups and disaster recovery plans.
System upgrades and maintenance:
- Conduct routine maintenance and system updates, including patches, upgrades, and security fixes.
- Plan and execute system migrations, hardware replacements, and software upgrades.
Project collaboration:
- Work closely with the IT Manager to execute IT projects, including infrastructure expansion, system implementations, and cloud migrations.
- Assist in the development of the IT strategy, focusing on systems scalability, efficiency, and security.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain documentation of all IT systems, processes, and configurations to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Provide reports on system performance, downtime, incidents, and resolution times to the IT Manager.
Vendor and Service Management:
- Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure the delivery of contracted services, including internet service providers, cloud services, and hardware suppliers.
- Manage service level agreements (SLAs) and ensure vendors meet required performance standards.
Training and User Support:
- Provide training and technical guidance to end-users, helping them make the most of the IT systems and applications.
- Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for problem resolution.
- Develop and maintain a knowledge base for common IT issues and solutions.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred)
- Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in IT technical support.
- Proven experience with network management (LAN/WAN), firewalls (Sophos), VPNs, and system security.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including Office Suite tools, SharePoint, and Active Directory.
- Familiarity with data backup, disaster recovery planning, and IT compliance [URL Removed] with network configurations, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall management.
Skills:
- Proficiency in managing server infrastructure, networks, and IT security tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues.

- Experience with network monitoring tools and performance optimization.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Additional Requirements:
