SAP Project Manager – SAP Migration Projects
Our corporate client in the oil and gas industry in Cape Town is looking for the services of a (Super) SAP Project Manager with SAP Migration Projects experience to lead a lead a strategic SAP migration project, on a 6-12 months contract. On a hybrid working model 1 week on premises and 1 week work from home. The ideal candidate will oversee the migration of their existing SAP environment to a new platform, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations and optimal system performance post-migration.
Non Negotiables for this role are:
- This role requires a deep understanding of SAP systems, cloud and on-premises deployment strategies, and SAP best practices for migration and transformation projects.
- 10+ years of SAP project management experience, with at least 3 successful SAP migration projects delivered.
- Strong understanding of SAP landscapes, migration methodologies, and deployment options (On-Premise, Cloud, Hybrid).
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA migrations, SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC), RISE with SAP, or other cloud migration strategies.
- Expertise in SAP Activate methodology, Agile, and/or Waterfall project management frameworks.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale SAP transformation projects across complex enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of SAP Basis, Data Migration, Security, Infrastructure, and Integration best practices.
- Hands-on experience with cutover planning, testing, and go-live strategies.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Execution:
- Define project scope, objectives, and success criteria aligned with business goals.
- Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, including timelines, milestones, risks, and resource allocation.
- Lead and coordinate the SAP migration project from existing SAP landscape to new platform.
- Ensure alignment with SAP best practices and compliance with relevant regulatory and security requirements.
Stakeholder & Team Management:
- Collaborate with business leaders, IT teams, SAP functional and technical leads, and external partners.
- Manage cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication and accountability across business and IT stakeholders.
- Act as the primary point of contact between business teams, system integrators, and other third-party service providers.
Risk & Issue Management:
- Identify potential risks and mitigation strategies to ensure a smooth transition.
- Proactively resolve project bottlenecks and conflicts, escalating issues when necessary.
- Ensure business continuity by planning for contingencies and rollback strategies.
Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance:
- Oversee the technical architecture, data migration strategy, system integration, and cutover planning.
- Work closely with SAP Basis, Security, and Functional teams to ensure compatibility and performance optimization.
- Ensure robust testing, validation, and quality assurance activities before go-live.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Manage project budget, track costs, and ensure financial accountability.
- Optimize resource allocation, ensuring efficient use of internal and external expertise.
Post-Migration Support & Optimization:
- Develop and execute post-migration hypercare and stabilization plans.
- Ensure knowledge transfer and training for end-users and IT teams.
- Continuously monitor performance and drive optimization initiatives post-go-live.
PMP, PRINCE2, or SAP Solution Manager Certifications are a plus.
