Role: Senior Linux Engineer or Linux Administrator (with DevOps skills)
Location: Midrand, Johannesburg
Our client is a leading telco and they are looking for a DevOps/Systems Admin Engineer to join their dynamic team. With a focus on both DevOps and SysOps, you’ll collaborate with a team of like-minded professionals who are all working towards the shared goal of consistently improving the platform.
Role:
– Work closely with fellow LE Engineers and other technical teams to design and deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions. These solutions will be built, tested, and deployed using continuous integration and deployment pipelines, ensuring a seamless transition from development to production.
– Manage team workloads while aligning with the expectations of key stakeholders.
– Server & Process Management (systems, logs, user permissions)
– Networking & Security (firewalls, SSH, certificates, iptables/nftables)
– Automation & Scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
– Troubleshooting & Performance Tuning (debugging system resource issues)
Technical Skills required:
– Solid UNIX/Linux background – 5 years+.
– Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Chef, Ansible, Puppet) – ideally 3+ years.
– Familiarity with container management technologies, such as Kubernetes – ideally 3+ years.
– Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaaC).
– Expos.
– Experience with popular CI platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bamboo, or Travis).
– Familiarity with SysOps practices and runbooks.
– Understanding of infrastructure deployment and templating (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform).
– Experience with advanced monitoring models (Prometheus is a plus).
– Knowledge of continuous integration and automated testing practices.
– Visualization experience (ELK, Grafana, or Splunk) is an advantage.
