Home energy management company, Plentify, has been awarded the EEP Africa Project of the Year 2024 for its innovative technology and impact in addressing Africa’s energy challenges. This prestigious award highlights Plentify’s pioneering approach to optimising energy demand to align with clean energy supply, through smart devices that improve energy reliability without compromising user comfort.
With catalytic early-stage funding from the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa), Plentify’s Project Smart Geyser demonstrated how intelligent geyser control can enable a more affordable, reliable, and clean energy system in South Africa.
The project’s key findings show that geysers can:
- Reduce peak-time energy use by up to 80%;
- Reduce spikes in demand by up to 60%;
- Enable 2x as much solar integration; and
- Deliver hot showers while cutting home electricity costs by up to 24%.
By leveraging AI-powered energy management, Project Smart Geyser proved that intelligent geyser control is a game-changer for grid stability, load shedding mitigation, and renewable energy adoption.
Plentify’s vision is to mitigate 20 hours of blackouts per month for every South African household while enabling the deployment of multiple gigawatts of solar energy globally. Beyond South Africa, pilot deployments are underway in the UK and Norway, with upcoming projects in Portugal and other markets.
Jon Kornik, CEO and co-founder of Plentify, comments: “This recognition from EEP Africa affirms our belief that the fastest path to a cleaner, more reliable energy future is by rethinking how we use power at home. With the right technology, everyday appliances can become the backbone of a smarter, greener grid, not just in South Africa, but around the world.”
