Postion Summary:
The National Research Foundation (NRF) seeks to make an appointment for the position of Business Intelligence Developer within the Data Science directorate which forms part of the Digital Transformation business unit. The incumbent will support and assist the Senior Business Intelligence Specialist with the development, support, maintenance, and expansion of the NRF Business Intelligence (BI) Architecture, which hosts the internal and external business intelligence systems as well as the staging area, to ensure the provision of data for strategic, management and analytical decision making for the NRF as well as the broader National System of Innovation (NSI).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance integration with source systems including legacy systems and active systems e

  • ERP system, with the NRF BI Architecture
  • This includes:a
  • Developing integration packages to import data from the legacy and currently active systems into the BI Staging Area
  • b
  • Developing the necessary procedures to clean and transform the data, as well as the necessary procedures to validate the data and report any incorrect data to the respective stakeholders
  • c
  • Ensuring that the respective jobs are scheduled to be executed on a regular basis, based on the requirements for the respective datasets
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance reporting functionality within the BI Platform, and implement user training
  • This includes:a
  • Developing interactive dashboards and reports
  • b
  • Ensuring that specific users / platforms receive the correct dashboards / reports
  • c
  • Maintaining role-based security for all NRF and external users
  • d
  • Developing training manuals / documentation and/or videos to assist users with using the platform
  • e
  • Providing ad-hoc datasets and reports when requested
  • f
  • Proposing appropriate developments and innovative solutions that consistently enhance and maximise service quality, efficiency and continuity
  • Update, maintain and fine-tune the software by:a
  • Ensuring that the software used to store, integrate, and visualise the data is regularly updated
  • b
  • Performing various tasks to clean the databases and servers
  • c
  • Fine-tuning the software to ensure optimal use of disk space and memory allocation
  • d
  • Ensuring data security and backups in conjunction with IT
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement, training and workshops skills through:a
  • Identifying relevant stakeholders and their challenges, needs and expectations
  • b
  • Undertaking stakeholder needs assessment through regular engagements
  • c
  • Engaging stakeholders on business needs and provide necessary BI reporting solution
  • d
  • Participating in regular briefings and engagements with stakeholders to create awareness and keep them informed, as appropriate
  • e
  • Providing regular training sessions to assist users in accessing and using the available tools
  • f
  • Providing briefing sessions to demonstrate new developments and datasets
  • g
  • Providing training sessions to users who wish to use the datasets and tools to build their own dashboards/reports

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:

  • 3-5 years
  • A bachelor’s degree or Diploma (NQF 7) in Computer Science, Software Development, Business Intelligence, or related field
  • Three years work experience in creating and maintaining databases, of which two years is in:a
  • database design (preferably Microsoft SQL)
  • b
  • Business Intelligence Reporting / Dashboards (preferably Microsoft Power BI / SQL Reporting Services)c
  • integration services (preferable Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services)
