Our client, a leading Manufacturing company based in Port Shepstone, is looking to fill the position of Automation Engineer.

Purpose of the Role:
The position reports to the Maintenance Manager. The job entails ensuring the reliable operation of automation systems, equipment, and software; evaluating the efficiency and costs of process control and instrumentation hardware and software; developing and implementing improvement strategies; and facilitating change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain best maintenance strategies for factory DCS, PLC and instrumentation.
  • Excellent, hands-on knowledge of cement plant automation technology; knowledge of the clinker manufacturing process.
  • Investigate failures using updated methods in trouble shooting, scenario evaluations, trend analysis, event analysis.
  • Achieve consistent production of quality product at optimal cost.
  • Improve plant reliability.
  • Improved asset protection.
  • Reduced maintenance and operational cost.
  • Review and improve existing maintenance schedules.
  • Continuous improvement and plant optimisation.
  • Interact with technical support teams to achieve world class performance.
  • Effective automation maintenance.
  • Standardize best practices, compile procedures to train technicians, process controllers and other support staff.
  • Effective maintenance, accuracy and upkeep of process analysers
  • Maintain reliability of stack emissions analysers, dust monitors and velocity meters in line with the relevant legislation.
  • Compliance with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints.
  • Compliance – with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints, compliance with company policy and procedures & statutory and legal requirements, SHE compliance.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • A SAQA accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic, Electrical or Process Instrumentation or National N Diploma with 15 years’ experience, or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of PLC programming STEP 7 and TIA Portal, Solid understanding of PCS7 and Abb 800xA DCS and WinCCFlex SCADA systems
  • Fundamental knowledge of process and emissions analysers
  • 10 years ‘relevant work experience in an integrated cement manufacturing environment
  • Experience in SAP MRP System
  • Must be Computer Literate (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook)
