AOL is shuttering its 34-year-old dial-up Internet service.
The “You’ve got mail” service was launched in 1991, and helped to popularise Internet use.
It’s not known how many users are still on the dial-up service.
“AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue dial-up Internet,” the Yahoo-owned organisation says on its help site.
“This service will no longer be available in AOL plans. As a result, on 30 September 2025 this service and the associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, which are optimised for older operating systems and dial-up internet connections, will be discontinued.”
