“Dubai ranks among the world’s top 10 cities where tech experts aspire to work on cutting-edge innovations,” says Ali Serdar Yakut, Emirates Group’s executive vice-president IT. “As a global airline and air services provider, we are committed to continuous product improvements and operational efficiency. We are investing in the technologies of tomorrow and upskilling our employees to stay ahead of the curve.

“To support this vision, we are keen to attract top talent to be part of our IT workforce,” he adds. “We have a wide array of exciting and challenging tech and innovation projects in the pipeline – some of which will shape aviation and many of our day-to-day processes. We believe these projects will lay the foundation for dream careers in technology.”

Typically, the Group’s IT team works on cutting-edge projects across B2C, B2B, support functions, and operations for more than 40 brands and businesses in Dubai and globally.

The team architects, builds, and efficiently maintains software and systems that make real contributions to help manage operations, ramp up revenue, streamline costs, maximise business and people efficiencies, and enable internal engagement.

Some of the recent projects the IT team has delivered include the launch of Emirates’ premium economy product for sale, optimising catering using AI models, incorporating biometrics for check-in and enabling self-service bag-drop, and dnata’s cargo and resource management systems.

Tech employees have massive opportunities to introduce advanced technologies and the latest applications to airline operations, embark on developing flexible, user-friendly customer interfaces, using in-depth data analysis, and implementing machine learning and robotics in partnership with industry leaders.

Some of the tools, technologies, and patterns available to the IT team include cloud services, microservices, API management, event streaming, robotics, DevOps, biometrics – including facial recognition, Web and native mobile development, mainframe – ALCS, ERP (Oracle applications), and modern programming languages like ReactJS, full stack Java, .NET and Python.

Training includes in-depth courses on a range of tools, technologies, technical subjects, and Agile delivery that help upskill and cross-skill. It also includes e-learning and supports women in tech. These are complemented with knowledge-sharing sessions, tech talks, hackathons, codefests, and bootcamps.

Tech employees can also be a part of an active and robust community of coders, an IT engagement hub, a tech academy, a cybersecurity forum, even one on data science practice.
