NEC XON has successfully commissioned two commercial-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems in Gauteng for the Alcap Group.
The installations – a 202,6kWp system at Podium at Menlyn and a 212,3kWp system at Cambridge Commercial Park – were completed early in 2025 following a competitive tender awarded in November 2024.
Together, the projects represent a combined investment of nearly R4-million and include a 10-year operations and maintenance contract with NEC XON for each site.
“The client faced mounting energy costs, limited control over consumption, and a need to align with the group’s sustainability goals,” says Ryan Burger, project manager at NEC XON. “Our grid-tied PV solutions directly address these challenges by reducing reliance on daytime grid electricity, lowering long-term energy operational costs, and supporting environmental objectives.”
Each site features Tier-1 solar panels, string inverters optimised for load requirements, and mounting structures tailored to the existing roof requirements. Real-time performance tracking is enabled via cloud-based monitoring software, continuously sharing energy generation data and operational insights.
Mark Allen, director at Alcap Group, emphasises the strategic value of the installations: “These systems are more than just energy solutions – they’re a visible commitment to sustainable business practices. They position us as forward-thinkers in a competitive property market.”
Prior to implementation, the client relied entirely on grid electricity. The new PV systems not only reduce exposure to tariff hikes but also showcase the short lead times to introduce solar technology across commercial properties.
