Our client, a leading Manufacturing company, within the mining / quarry sector, based in Port Shepstone, is looking to fill a 1-year fixed term contract the position of SAP Master Data Specialist (Mechanical/Electrical).

Purpose of the Role:
This role reports directly to the Methods Technician and is responsible for managing and maintaining all SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) master data, technical documentation, and equipment information to support efficient maintenance planning, execution, and reporting. This includes creating and controlling functional locations, equipment, bills of materials (BOMs), and preventive maintenance schedules, as well as managing engineering drawings, process flow diagrams, and site plans. The role also involves conducting electrical and mechanical inspections and measurements to verify the accuracy of asset data, optimize maintenance strategies, and enhance the reliability and performance of plant equipment. The role is for a fixed term period of twelve (12) months

Key Responsibilities:
SAP Master Data Management:

  • Create and maintain functional locations in SAP in line with the plant’s asset hierarchy and engineering standards.
  • Create, update, and manage equipment masters, ensuring all technical specifications, classifications, and linkages to functional locations are accurate and complete.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for all relevant electrical or mechanical assets to support maintenance and spares planning.
  • Create, review, and optimize preventive maintenance (PM) plans, task lists, and schedules in SAP to ensure effective maintenance planning and execution.
  • Continuously improve preventive maintenance schedules by analysing inspection data, work history, and equipment performance.
  • Support and monitor maintenance processing requirements on SAP, including notifications, work order creation, confirmations, and closures.

Equipment Data Validation and CMMS Optimization:

  • Validate and update equipment specification files and history on the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Systematically record, verify, and analyse equipment information, including technical specifications, operational history, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure that equipment data supports maintenance planning, reliability analysis, and condition monitoring.
  • Collaborate with engineering, reliability, and maintenance teams to verify and correct equipment data discrepancies in SAP.

Electrical or Mechanical Inspections and Measurements:

  • Conduct routine electrical or mechanical inspections on plant equipment to assess condition, performance, and compliance.
  • Perform measurements on equipment (e.g., current, voltage, resistance, vibration, temperature, alignment, or dimensions) to verify operational condition and update SAP master data.
  • Identify deviations, defects, or anomalies and record them through SAP notifications and maintenance reports.
  • Work with planners and reliability engineers to ensure inspection findings inform maintenance schedules and corrective action plans.

Technical Documentation and Drawing Management:

  • Manage, update, and control engineering drawings, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layout drawings, and site plans.
  • Ensure documentation is correctly linked to the relevant equipment or functional locations in SAP.
  • Maintain version control and change documentation for all drawings.
  • Collaborate with project and engineering teams to ensure newly installed or modified assets have up-to-date documentation stored in SAP and the central drawing repository.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • SAQA-accredited N6 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or S4 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
  • Trade Test advantageous.
  • SAP PM module training or certification advantageous.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a maintenance or engineering environment (preferably cement, mining, or manufacturing).
  • Hands-on experience in electrical or mechanical plant inspections and measurements.
  • Familiarity with drawing management systems, PFDs, and technical documentation control.
  • Experience with maintenance processing, including work orders, notifications, and equipment history tracking.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of SAP PM and understanding of Materials Management (MM).
  • Ability to conduct electrical or mechanical inspections and measurements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, and document management systems.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
