Financial education should be practical, powerful, and personal because when people understand their financial position and how money works, their futures change for the better.

Guided by this belief, two Johannesburg-based companies joined forces to make financial learning more accessible and impactful through technology — a collaboration that has now earned them global recognition.

Worth Financial Education and its learning technology partner, New Leaf Technologies, were named runners-up at the 2025 Learning Technologies Awards in the UK on 12 November 2025.

The award, in the Best Learning Platform Implementation category, celebrates technology solutions that deliver measurable impact in learning and development, highlighting projects that combine innovation, scalability, and real-world results.

Learning Technologies received hundreds of entries from all over the world in the various categories for projects in both the commercial, as well as public & non-profit sector.

Hayley Parry, Worth’s head of education, says the award serves as recognition for more than a decade of hard work by the team at Worth to provide financial education that genuinely changes lives.

“Through our courses, Worth Money Coaches equip learners to make better financial decisions, reduce money-related stress, and build lasting financial wellbeing.”

She says partnering with New Leaf Technologies just over a year ago, has enabled all Worth’s learning delivery through a cutting-edge, and now award-winning learner management system, ensuring every learner enjoys a seamless experience from signing up and registration to course completion.

Worth’s courses — including Wealthy Me and Wealthy Couples — have already helped more than 100 000 learners who benefited from Worth’s programmes since inception.

“To see this work recognised globally against competitors with much larger teams and budgets is incredibly rewarding,” Parry adds.

Melana Petschel, head of Vitality Money and Rewards at Discovery Bank, says: “Financial planning, including education, is part of the six controllable behaviours Discovery Bank helps our clients change to manage money well. We have various in-app budgeting and financial tools in support, and clients receive Vitality Money points when completing a course through our partnership with Worth.”

According to Gary Kayle, CEO of Worth, the Learning Technologies accolade shines a light on how collaboration can deliver measurable social impact. Judges looked at both quantitative and qualitative evidence, assessing how the learning platform enhanced access, engagement, and outcomes for learners.
