Our client, a leading data centre and digital infrastructure provider, is seeking an experienced BIM Specialist to join their Building Information Modelling team in Isando, Johannesburg. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in bridging technology, data, and workflows to create a seamless ecosystem connecting Design, Construction, and Operations.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in aligning BIM with enterprise-wide digital integration initiatives, helping to embed BIM as a core component of the organisation’s broader digital transformation journey.
Key Responsibilities

BIM Administration

  • Develop and implement procedures, policies, and protocols to increase efficiencies in document handling, including Work Instructions, Standards and Protocols, Asset Registers, and Drawing/Model Naming Conventions, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Develop BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) to manage roles, deliverables, and data sharing strategies for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the BIM Manager and BIM Coordinator to acquire and organise As-Built Data from legacy sites in support of ongoing fit-out projects.
  • Facilitate seamless handover of BIM models from design consultants on greenfield projects to the BIM team, ensuring production of post-handover federated models and digital twins rich in asset data.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, architects, and professionals to ensure as-built data fidelity is maintained after the handover of facilities to Operations and IM teams.
  • Work with the BIM Coordinator to ensure that post-handover changes follow required BIM practices and are properly documented and tracked.
  • Leverage smart technologies to efficiently maintain existing BIM workflows across multiple departments.
  • Evaluate and introduce BIM software solutions, plugins, and automation tools to streamline repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Establish new templates, processes, workflows, and protocols for implementation within the project design space.

Digital Integration & Development

  • Drive integration across multiple departments using Autodesk Forma.
  • Support further development and integration of departmental input into design and delivery within the digital integration project space.
  • Maintain and enforce BIM conformance across departments and associated projects.
  • Develop project insight, analytics, and intelligent reporting in dashboard format using Autodesk Forma meta-data.
  • Simplify and automate project reporting and access to project information to support key business decision-making.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Autodesk Forma ‘Assets’, enabling asset tracking within digital twins, with a focus on seamless information transfer to Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Develop and maintain digital twins following project handover by the BIM department.

Governance

  • Develop and maintain global standards, guidelines, and discipline in the organisation’s BIM way-of-work and protocols across relevant departments.
  • Facilitate consultations between internal teams, external consultants, and clients to resolve collaborative issues and maintain data integrity within the BIM ecosystem.
  • Support the development of change management best practice within relevant project spaces.

Training & Upskilling

  • Support the continuous professional development of employees in the use of Autodesk Forma and its associated tools and functionality.
  • Train and upskill project teams, including consultants and contractors, in the use of Autodesk Forma and supporting tools.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in the Built Environment (Architecture or MEP) — essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience using the Autodesk suite of BIM tools within the construction environment, including Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Sound knowledge of international BIM best practice.
  • Knowledge of Dynamo for Autodesk Revit, Python programming, and the Revit API.
