Spotify is introducing an AI Persona badge that will let users know if an artist’s identity may be AI-generated and not represent a real person.

This follows earlier tools for artist identity and trust, including Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, AI Credits and Artist Profile Protection.

Announcing the new move, the company says listeners say they don’t like seeing an artist profile that seems human but is AI-generated.

It adds that the AI Persona badge will be on those artists that self-disclose as well as relevant profiles identified by Spotify.

For artist profiles where Spotify’s review team have applied the badge, artists will be notified and given the opportunity to self-disclose or appeal.

In the coming months, listeners will also have the ability to report artist profiles they believe represent AI Personas to the review team.

By default, Spotify will not include AI Personas in any editorial or algorithmic recommendations, so users won’t see any music from AI Personas in their personalised recommendations, unless they follow AI Personas.
