Gojimo is an education app that assists students in revising for their school exams. The app, which is already the UK’s leading exam preparation app and is successful in the US, has been available to South African students at no cost since its launch in April 2015. By Karolina Sky Rafalski.
George Burgess, the founder of Gojimo, was only 17 years old when he established the startup, which has partnered with some of the world’s largest educational publishers including, McGraw-Hill Education and Oxford University Press.
A crucial benefit for students is that the app works offline so once the content is downloaded students can use the app with no Internet connection. Burgess says that with Gojimo he hopes to ” help raise South African students pass rates”.
With the stress of matric exams around the corner, Gojimo allows for free and easy educational learning at anytime and anywhere. It boasts a user experience that enables students to find everything they need inside this one app. The app works on both phone and tablet devices, allowing students to download Gojimo for free from either App Store or Google Play.
Gojimo now offers free content specifically written for the South African matrics. The app helps students get an instant picture of their knowledge by selecting their exam and the subjects they are studying for. Content can be broken down into topics or students can opt to take a random quiz, they are able to track their progress over time as well as revisit previous questions and answers in order to reinforce their learning.
Gojimo’s vision is to bring learning to students via their mobile phones. Burgess says: “I’ve seen the transformative nature of education and a mobile learning platform puts that power right into the hands of the students.”
Youth today are becoming immeasurably familiar with the world of apps and technology-based learning and are captivated with online presence. Gojimo paves the way for every matric student in South Africa to take control of his or her academic future. By offering a free app Gojimo are hoping to close the gap in mobile learning.
