Software and solutions company DVT is a Platinum Sponsor for DevConf 2017, a community-driven, developer focused, one-day conference hosted annually in Johannesburg. The partnership extends the company’s longstanding commitment to the South African software development community.
DVT CEO Jaco van der Merwe says DevConf plays an important role in bringing the local software development community and leaders of business and industry together, and the sponsorship dovetails with the DVT’s focus on skills development, economic empowerment and global services.
“Regardless of the industry segment or even business size, many local companies recognise that to remain competitive in the market they need custom software solutions of high quality that add business value earlier and are delivered into production faster,” says Van der Merwe.
“Even those companies equipped with the best tools, Agile processes and skills still struggle to get software into production faster, and often this is because they lack an understanding of their teams’ unique strengths,” he says. “An event like DevConf is the ideal forum at which these and other issues can start to be addressed by networking, sharing practical experiences and bringing the software development and business communities together.”
DVT Mobile Practice Lead Christopher Dawson says that while DVT’s forward-thinking Learnership and Internship programmes are a leap in the right direction towards addressing the dire skills shortage for talented developers in South Africa, the key to growing the industry from within is through forums like DevConf.
“Mobility is huge not just in South Africa but around the world, and we’re constantly looking for new ways to introduce our learners and interns to new ideas and new industries to broaden their in-house experience,” says Dawson.
“Everything about developing, testing, deploying and managing high-quality software applications can only be improved through shared ideas with like-minded business professionals, which is why DevConf is always a vital part of our development strategy as a company.”
Following the success of last year’s event, DevConf 2017 aims to attract more than 700 attendees across a broad spectrum of South Africa’s strongest business industries, from financial services to telecommunications, media, healthcare and education.
Attendees are given the opportunity to learn, network and be inspired by their peers and other industry professionals with a shared vested interest in creating powerful software solutions to solve the country’s most pressing business problems and create new competitive opportunities for local developers wanting to offer their skills to a global audience.
